Bite is the 2005 anthology that brought together five of the leading paranormal-romance authors of the moment (Charlaine Harris, Laurell K. Hamilton, MaryJanice Davidson, Angela Knight, Vickie Taylor) for novellas in their respective continuities. The volume captured the genre at its commercial and creative peak and remains a useful overview of what each writer was doing then.
The Charlaine Harris contribution is an early Sookie Stackhouse story and is the volume's strongest piece. The Laurell K. Hamilton story is from the Anita Blake universe and shows the series in mid-transition. The MaryJanice Davidson piece is from her comic Queen Betsy sequence. The Angela Knight piece runs in her Time Patrol universe.
Four stars. A useful entry point for readers curious about the early-2000s paranormal romance boom. Recommended for fans of any of the contributors.
