Many Bloody Returns is the Charlaine Harris and Toni Kelner co-edited anthology of vampire stories with the unifying theme of birthdays. The roster (Harris herself, Kelner, Christopher Golden, P. N. Elrod, Tanya Huff, Kelley Armstrong, Patricia Briggs, others) is one of the strongest paranormal lineups of the period.

The Charlaine Harris Sookie Stackhouse story is the obvious draw and earns its place. The Kelley Armstrong piece is some of the best short fiction in her Otherworld universe. The Toni Kelner story is genuinely funny in a way the paranormal anthology form rarely manages.

Four stars. A clever theme handled by writers who could actually carry it. Recommended even to readers who think they have aged out of paranormal romance.
