Wolfsbane and Mistletoe is the Charlaine Harris and Toni Kelner-edited 2008 paranormal anthology with the unifying theme of werewolves at Christmas. The roster is strong: Harris herself, Kelner, Patricia Briggs, Donna Andrews, Simon R. Green, Carrie Vaughn, Dana Cameron, Karen MacInerney, and others. The Patricia Briggs contribution is in her Mercy Thompson universe, and the Carrie Vaughn piece is a Kitty Norville short.
The Patricia Briggs contribution is the volume's strongest piece, with the holiday-themed werewolf-pack-dynamics material that her novels handle so well at full strength. The Donna Andrews piece is funny in her recognizable comic-cozy register. The Harris Sookie story uses the holiday premise productively. Fans of the Patricia Briggs Mercy Thompson series or of Kelley Armstrong's Otherworld novels will find the volume the right kind of seasonal companion.
The Christmas theme is well-handled across the volume.
Four stars. A solid theme anthology. The Wolfsbane and Mistletoe Charlaine Harris and Toni Kelner anthology is one of the strongest in their long series of paranormal-edited volumes. Recommended for fans of the contributors and for seasonal-themed paranormal reading.
